FINDING INSPIRATION - THE APARTMENT
Back in September I was offered the use of a friend's apartment in Spain and jetted off to enjoy some sunshine near Denia, Alicante. My partner and I had an amazing time swimming in waterfalls, reading by the pool and visiting Valencia's Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. After 5 days away we returned, refreshed, slightly tanned . . . and in my case, with a phone full of photos of the apartments retro interiors!
When I found out that the apartment's kitchen and bathroom were being ripped out and replaced over the winter I decided to create a jewellery collection based around the details, shapes and patterns that I had photographed.
The apartment's Curved bamboo headboards, bold designs on outdated appliances and vintage kitchen tiles became the inspiration for a new range which now includes statement bib necklaces, bold dangly earrings and chic studs.
I began by sketching ideas for components that i could print, cut out and construct my wearable pieces from. Using Illustrator to repeat and manipulate the shapes until I settled on the final shapes and compositions.
You can see shapes taken from the bamboo bedhead in the fans below and angular patterns inspired by details on the old LACKEY cooker in the bib necklace bases on the left.
As is often the way with my work, the colour palette was inspired by a selection of fabrics. A textured, vintage green dress, some charity shop finds and patterned material brought back from India, paired with some plainer fabrics that would let my vinyl prints POP!
You can view the PEACOCK COLOURS collection here
I'm so in LOVE with this collection, from the elegant, light weight studs to the largest, layered, fan necklace, so will be releasing each piece in a second colour palette later this month.
The festive season approaches and what's a Christmas party without some black and gold . . . or a bit of glitter!!!
